James is of counsel in our Litigation and Arbitration team, focusing on complex civil litigation with a particular emphasis on commercial disputes, employment matters, and arbitration proceedings. He has successfully handled a wide range of commercial cases in both state and federal courts, representing clients in jury and bench trials.
James also advises financial institutions and broker-dealer firms in regulatory investigations and defends them against claims in the securities industry. He has deep experience in class action litigation, particularly in wage-and-hour class action defense and has also litigated extensively in the area of IP including patents.

Dr. Pickett is a biochemist specializing in lipid chemistry, structural elucidation, analysis, and signal transduction. Dr. Pickett also has over 60 publication in these areas.

Dr. Hoffmann has nearly twenty years of experience in the patent field. Prior to and in conjunction with his work in patent practice, Dr. Hoffmann’s background includes numerous years as a researcher and educator. His present focus relates to chemical, cosmetics, biotechnology and pharmaceuticals. He has extensive experience (more than nineteen years) in patent prosecution pertaining to both United States and international patent applications (including preparation of appeal briefs). In addition, Dr. Hoffmann provides technical and research expertise in opinion work and related patent searches and evaluations.
Dr. Hoffmann worked in the intellectual property practice group of two global general practice firms as a technical advisor/patent agent and earlier in a New York patent boutique litigation firm. Before entering the patent arena in April 1987, Dr. Hoffmann was an Assistant Professor at Rockefeller University and Adjunct Professor at Cornell Graduate School engaged in basic and cancer research in cell biology, immunology, molecular biology and biochemistry. Prior to his stay at the Rockefeller University, Dr. Hoffmann was an instructor and research associate in the Department of Biochemistry at the Rutgers Medical School.
